Supersonic turbulence in giant HII regions: clues from 30 Doradus

چکیده
The tight correlation between turbulence and luminosity in giant HII regions (GHRs) is not well understood. While the due to UV radiation from massive stars ionizing clusters, it clear what powers turbulence. Observations of two prototypical GHRs local Universe, 30 Doradus NGC 604, show that part kinetic energy nebular gas comes combined stellar winds most stars, cluster winds, but all. We present a study kinematics based on archival VLT FLAMES/GIRAFFE data new high-resolution observations with HARPS. find structure are shaped by hot wind individual stars. gas, small contribution gravitational potential gas. estimate total mass we argue region does contain significant amounts neutral (HI) molecular cloud Dor-10, which close center nebula projection, fact an inflating tens parsecs away R136, core cluster. rule out Kolmogorov-like turbulent cascade as source supersonic GHRs.

Supersonic Water Masers in 30 Doradus
We report on extremely high velocity molecular gas, up to −80 km s relative to the ambient medium, in the giant star-formation complex 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), as observed in new 22 GHz H2O 616 → 523 maser emission spectra obtained with the Mopra radio telescope. The masers may trace the velocities of protostars, and the observed morphology and kinematics indicate that cu...
متن کاملOn the structure of giant HII regions and HII galaxies
We review the structural properties of giant extragalactic HII regions and HII galaxies based on two dimensional hydrodynamic calculations, and propose an evolutionary sequence that accounts for their observed detailed structure. The model assumes a massive and young stellar cluster surrounded by a large collection of clouds. These are thus exposed to the most important star-formation feedback ...
متن کاملNarrowband CCD Photometry of Giant HII Regions
We have obtained accurate CCD narrow band Hβ and Hα photometry of Giant HII Regions in M 33, NGC 6822 and M 101. Comparison with previous determinations of emission line fluxes show large discrepancies; their probable origins are discussed. Combining our new photometric data with global velocity dispersion (σ) derived from emission line widths we have reviewed the L(Hβ)) − σ relation. A reanaly...
متن کاملCHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND MIXING IN GIANT H ii REGIONS: NGC 3603, 30 DORADUS, AND N66
We investigate the chemical abundances of NGC 3603 in the Milky Way, of 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud, and of N66 in the Small Magellanic Cloud. Mid-infrared observations with the Infrared Spectrograph on board the Spitzer Space Telescope allow us to probe the properties of distinct physical regions within each object, the central ionizing cluster, the surrounding ionized gas, photod...
متن کاملAnomalous emission from HII regions
Spinning dust appears to be the best explanation for the anomalous emission that has been observed at ∼ 10 − 60 GHz. One of the best examples of spinning dust comes from a HII region in the Perseus molecular cloud. Observations of other HII regions also show tentative evidence for excess emission at frequencies ∼ 30 GHz, although at lower emissivity levels. A new detection of excess emission at...
